Please welcome our newest Portlock personality! Congratulations to Michelle Van Veenendaal and Alan Zukerkorn on the birth of their son, Ascher Quinn Van Zee! Ascher arrived on June 29 weighing in at 8 1/2 lbs. and measuring 20 inches!
Looking for some help…
Our good friends and Triangle neighbors, Terry and Pamela Bosgra, are asking for donations of the recyclable items that you put in your blue bin. Terry is chairman of the Global Hope Network, http://www.ghni.org, a humanitarian aid provider. Terry and Pam match all funds generated from recycling, which assists orphaned children in Africa with food and schooling, and last year they were able to donate $3000.
Specifically, they need plastic bottles (water and soda); aluminum soda cans; and small glass bottles (beer, water). They have asked for you to call them at 255-6993 for pick up or that you drop a bag in their driveway at 94 Makaweli St. They greatly appreciate your help!
PCA Board News
The Portlock Community Association (PCA) held a Board meeting on Thursday, June 26th. Police Major Robert Green addressed concerns about the July 4th celebration at Maunalua Bay and reported that plain clothes police and patrol police will be enforcing jay walking on Kalanianaole, parking, and beach activities. This year the PCA donated $300 to the Independence Day at Maunalua Bay organization.
So how did everyone feel about the July 4th celebration? I thought that the firework display was awesome, and Roy's Restaurant had a ticketed event that provided free parking, drinks and fabulous pupus. There appeared to be a very good turn-out of families, and my only suggestion would be for more food options, such as hamburgers and hotdogs. I haven't heard of any problems regarding parking or beach activities along Portlock, but please do report to the PCA any issues that need to be brought to the attention of the next year's planning committee. A great big MAHALO NUI LOA goes out to Portlock neighbor Cha Thompson for working so hard to make this a successful event!

I am accepting articles for the Fall issue of the Portlock Roader to be distributed in August. If you have any news/photos from the July 4th event, please forward them to me. Sandy Marrack reminded us that it's time again for annual dues, and I hope to provide a financial statement in the next issue. Anyone wishing to contribute articles or assist with the quarterly newsletter, please call me at 864-2504 or jennifer@jenniferbusto.com.
